Who We Are + What We Do
La Sala de San José is the home of the Galisteo Arts Center. Located on State Route 41 in the heart of Galisteo, the Center is open seasonally from June through August. Operating as a non-profit 501c3 and governed by an all-volunteer board of citizens bringing expertise from a variety of professional backgrounds.
Our mission is to educate the general public about music, art, literature, film, and the history of northern New Mexico. We accomplish this by programming a diverse schedule throughout the season based on themes that focus our selections of artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, and historians.
2018's theme, Best Seats in the House, was followed by Under the Influences in 2019. We are now planning for 2020 and have selected Clima as our content-centered choice. Each of the exhibitions invites artists from New Mexico to exhibit in either two three-person exhibits or one group exhibition. Accompanying lectures and films are interspersed throughout the season and offer an alternative showcase while addressing the physical, emotional, and political climate of the contemporary United States in 2020..
Also, we celebrate the origins of La Sala de San José by holding traditional bailes in our late 1800's dance hall plus hosting La Gran Pastores of Beliñ each December.
With the continued support of our business and private sponsors, funding from government agencies and individual donations, we will continue to offer ambitious programming free to the public.
We invite you to stop by, see our restoration project (in progress) and enjoy the Galisteo Arts Center!
