La Sala de San José Galisteo Arts Center and Lone Piñon in New Cultural Partnership
[Galisteo, New Mexico, April 15, 2020] The Board of the Galisteo Arts Center is pleased to announce that La Sala de San José and Lone Piñon are now in a cultural partnership.
Lone Piñon is a New Mexican string band, or "orquesta típica," whose music celebrates the integrity of their region's cultural roots. With fiddles, upright bass, accordions, vihuela, mandolin, guitars, jarana huasteca, and vocals in Spanish, English, Nahuatl, and P'urepecha, they play a broad spectrum of the traditional music that is at home in New Mexico.
During the 2019 season, the Galisteo Arts Center, housed in La Sala de San José—a late 1800's dance hall in Galisteo, NM—hosted two traditional Bailes with Lone Piñon. "Seeing our guests dance to the traditional music of northern NM brought alive this historic building and recalled its rich means of building community roots," says Ed Epping, President of La Sala. "The board is thrilled to establish this cultural partnership and the kinds of programming we might develop, here in Galisteo and elsewhere."
Built in 1899, La Sala served as a community center and dance hall for the village of Galisteo and the surrounding area. One of three built at that time in NM, it is the only one surviving and still offering our community a place to gather, dance, listen to music and lectures, and to witness the visual heritage of northern New Mexico.
The Board is also excited about this coming season's theme, CLIMA, and invites you to join us for all of our events so that La Sala de Galisteo may become a positive influence on your New Mexico cultural experience.
Galisteo Arts Center is a 501c3 organization whose mission is to educate the general public about, preserve the historical traditions of and enhance the current atmosphere for the arts in the traditional village of Galisteo, New Mexico.
